I am passionate about helping my clients to succeed in their financial and business endeavours and achieve their life goals. I believe in providing advice that is proactive and forward thinking. I am focused on helping my clients to grow and develop their business, while ensuring that they remain focused on their core business strategy.

Michael co-founded Crux with Nathan in 2018.

Prior to forming Crux, Michael worked for a mid-sized local accounting firm Strawbridge & Associates as an Associate Principal in the business advisory space. He has also worked for the international accounting firm Deloitte (in both New Zealand and the UK) as a Field Manager in the audit and advisory department.

Michael has worked with various clients in a virtual CFO capacity, utilising his extensive knowledge and experience in strategic planning, profit improvement, risk management and business valuations to help his clients to grow and improve their business and to build resilience.

Michael also specialises in forensic accounting and litigation support services, working alongside lawyers to provide financial insight and data analytics capabilities to assist with legal cases and investigations.

Michael is an Advisory Board Member for a local mid-market heavy machinery business.

Outside of work Michael enjoys spending time with his fiancée Hannah, their baby boy Archer and their dog Poppi. Michael’s extra-curricular interests include rugby, wakeboarding, snowboarding, fishing and mountain biking.

I am motivated to help my clients to achieve their goals. I am passionate about providing exceptional client service and having a different service offering to most accountants. My approach is simple – I promise up front what I will do, when I will do it and what it will cost, and I always keep those promises.

Nathan co-founded Crux with Michael in 2018.

Prior to forming Crux, Nathan worked for a mid-sized local accounting firm Strawbridge & Associates as a Principal in the business advisory space.  He has also worked for the international accounting firm PwC as a senior consultant specialising in general tax consultancy and international tax.

In addition to his commerce degree, Nathan also has a law degree and admission to the bar.

Nathan has extensive experience working with small and mid-market businesses as a virtual CFO. In this role, Nathan focuses on helping his clients to manage their businesses more effectively to achieve their underlying personal goals – whether those goals are financial, lifestyle or otherwise. Nathan also puts his specialist tax knowledge to good use, providing tax consultancy and planning services as well as business and personal structuring advice.

Nathan is an Advisory Board Member for a local mid-market heavy machinery business.

Outside of work, Nathan enjoys spending time with his wife Marie and their two young boys Ethan and Tommy. As a family, they enjoy being active and spending time outdoors biking and tramping. They also try to head away to Hanmer Springs for a relaxing holiday once or twice each year.

Katie Mills
Senior Advisor

I am motivated to help my clients to better understand how to maximise efficiencies within their businesses, and in doing so, equip them with the tools to get and keep everything running smoothly. I believe that by spending the time to teach clients the best way of doing things from the outset they are able to save time and costs in the long run and put that time towards achieving their business goals instead.

Prior to joining Crux in late 2018, Katie worked for a mid-sized local accounting firm as a Client Manager.

Katie’s background has been mainly in compliance accounting including preparation of annual accounts, income tax returns, GST returns and PAYE returns. Katie also has experience in advisory services such as preparation of management reports, providing advice and training on accounting and payroll systems and managing implementation of new systems (including transition from old systems) for clients. Katie has worked with a large range of clients from individuals with rental properties and investments to large companies with multiple related entities.

Katie currently works part-time for Crux, working primarily Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Outside of work she spends her time with her young baby Oliver, husband Ethan and her fur-babies.

Office Manager

I am motivated to provide our clients with an exceptional service experience by ensuring we deliver our services on time and within scope. I believe in utilising cutting edge technology solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our administrative processes and to make things easier for our clients.

Prior to joining Crux in August 2019, Laura worked for a mid-sized local accounting firm as a Client Service Administrator.

Laura currently works for Crux Monday to Thursday each week. Outside of work she spends her time with her baby Emily and partner Anthony.
